Open Karotz

Hi there,

Glad to hear Karotz has a new lease of life, however I am having an issue installing my network settings.
I have followed the instructions directly but I am stuck on:
Reprogramming of the rodent
Turn off the Karotz.
Connect the USB stick to the back of your Karotz.
Turn on your Karotz.
Follow the instructions to update your rabbit will tell you that everything went well, reboot, then it should tell you that it is properly registered on the server, and flashing green.

Once this step is complete, turn off your rabbit.
You can go to Step 2: installing the firmware OpenKarotz.

All the dialogue is in French so I have no idea if I should be following further instructions, I can tell you that Karotz only flashes green once, then goes back to orange and eventually red- repeating a message over and over.

Can anyone please advise

I've got the same problem during my installation

You have to restart the step 1, but you must unzip the file (the one you download on open karotz website) with winrar or winzip



PS : sorry for my bad english, it's been a while that I have not spoken English.

Thanks for the reply, yes I know you have to unzip it (not using windows zip, I'm using winrar).
The problem is the Karotz voice prompts are in French, therefore I cannot tell where it's failing and also why.

Can you take a video of the installation ?

So I have made some progress, for some reason Karotz cannot connect to my Netgear Nighthawk router via WPA/WPA2. On my other primary router I created a special network where my two Nabaztags are connected, this is a WEP connection only- the Karotz connected (I think) to this network.
I rebooted the Karotz and it is currently solid green, however I find the instructions rather confusing at step 2:

Log in HTTP on port 81 of your rabbit: http: // 81

In your browser. You should see the screen below.

On my router I use the WPA-PSK/TKIP, and it's compatible with my karotz and my nabaztag:tag

WPA2 will not work with the Nabaztag


To connect to your karotz, you need to know the IP adress of the karotz on your router, for exemple my karotz have the IP : 192.168.1.7, to connect on my karotz I go to  http://192.168.1.7:81

I have attached a video of where I am at the moment, however I do not see Karotz connected to the router.

At the end of the video, your karotz say that it's connected to internet and ready , you have to turn off then turn it on and pass to the step 2

Can you try to do the step 1

When you do the file (with http://plug.openkarotz.org/ ) try to put an IP fixe

What ip address do I enter?

On my karotz I put 192.168.1.7

Here is the configuration on my Karotz :

ok, sorry, maybe i'm not explaining correctly but where are you getting this information from?
Why did you choose 192.168.1.7?

I chose this IP address because it was free on my network, known all network starts with 192.168.1.XX
XX is 1 to 255, with preference for odd numbers, you can choose the one you want.

For the "Masque de sous réseau" and "Passerelle" is always 255.255.255.0

For DNS I find with the control executor (CMD on windows) with the command ipconfig/all, but normally by putting what I put it should work




But with the message that you posted with the video, the setting is correct, continues with step 2 and you should see your Karotz on your network at the end

I tried again this evening with a fixed IP address and the same thing, I cannot see the rabbit connected to the router even though the voice prompts say it has connected successfully.

And if you try to log on to the IP address you put on your Karotz does it work?

no, it doesn't work

It's still weird that you do not see it on your network

I'll make a video setting on my Karotz so you can set the want to see what is wrong.

However when I navigate to http://192.168.0.5:81 the page does not load and it does not resolve

The strange thing is also is that when Lanscan shows 192.168.0.5 as belonging to Sparklan communications

Can you put a screenshot of the settings of your router

yes, sure- which settings do you want to see there are so many?

Especially parameters wifi is probably where the problem is this
