Fridgehead, development of a stand-alone server is in progress and the software is already working good. See the NabazLab site.

Too bad its french mostly the website, and its not a nice linux application. (There is a linux application but not really updated)

I would rather have my own server since the api interface is sometimes slow or my bunny loses connection too.

You right for the English part, sorry. Translation is quite some work so we are waiting either for contributors or for enough requests.

For Linux, you may be interested to know that the most important parts of NabazLab already run under Linux. The Assembler is already working, and the Service is being worked on. Only the Studio will stay Windows for now as a port is more difficult.

This is achieved using the Mono multiplatform .NET runtime. But as Mono 2 is still beta, there are sometimes some glitches and we are waiting for the final version.

Again, contributors are very welcome for this port.

Translation is hard? even if it is sloppy english its better then french alone for other people.

Take my advice and do like i do, go to http://babelfish.altavista.com and translate from french to english. Then 90% is done, at least its readable for an english person to understand.

On another note, nabazlab uses a proxy right? this assumes you have your wifi bunny connected via ad-hoc, but if you have a router with wifi, how do you connect your router to the bunny? This is somehow an issue with other people too i presume.

Not hard, just time consuming.

Thanks for advice. But in between please do as I do, got to babelfish and ask for thanslation of the page :-)

NabazLab doesn't use a proxy, but can be a proxy itself. The reason for using the proxy options of the rabbit is only that it allows for redirecting between two servers (Violet and NabazLab) by simply selecting/deselecting a checkbox in the device configuration.

The way it works:
- Configure your router so that it always give your computer the same (private or internal) IP. This is sometimes called DHCP Reservation in the router, most routers allow it.
- Set the rabbit to ad-hoc mode and configure it to use this IP as proxy.
- Restart the rabbit in normal mode, set your computer to normal WiFi.
- Run NabazLab Service (your computer should have that IP you selected).

Then in NabazLab web page, you can select the proxy mode (all requests are forwarded to Violet so everything works as previously), or server mode (all requests are processed locally).

NabazLab as it is today is an extensible server, which is provided with a single sample service (Remote Control). Hopefully, some will volunteer and create more services.

Notes:
The ad-hoc mode is only used during configuration.
In place of DHCP Reservation you can used a fixed-IP configuration for your computer.

Hope that helped.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers :-)

NabazLab aims at becoming a complete Nabaztag toolset. As of today, it includes two main parts:

- NabazLab Studio is a development tool. It includes an assembler for the device virtual machine, a simplistic code editor, a dance (choregraphy) editor, a proxy and a mini-server for code testing. The proxy and mini-server can capture and display a detailed view of all exchanged data. That allows for debugging and spying how the Violet server works.

- NabazLab Service is an autonomous Nabaztag proxy/server that can run as a Windows background service or in a console window. Modular and extensible, it comes with two simple sample modules (Proxy and Remote Control). The Studio can be used to develop parts that are then put together as a Service module.

We are still working on it, but are also expecting other developpers to jump in for modules development or other contribution. Current developments are in the fields of assembler libraries and Linux port.

Although the documentation at http://nabazlab.sourceforge.net is almost completely in french, NabazLab is quite easy to setup and use if you have some computer and networking understanding. Just download, extract, and play around, then write us if you need help.

When there are enough requests (and enough contributors), we will be glad to provide the documentation in english...
